What is CO-SAKU Robotics?

CO-SAKU Robotics is an open project that uses entry-level robotics programs as a catalyst to generate collaboration and co-creation across generations and roles within a community.

The project is driven by local stakeholders — including companies, community organizations, and educational institutions.

By leveraging their respective strengths and resources, they collaboratively create opportunities for people to "engage with technology through play."

Each project is flexibly designed according to the goals and vision of the local stakeholders involved.

Why Robotics in Local Communities — Now?

Robotics is no longer limited to technical or educational domains.
The process of designing, building, modifying, and operating robots naturally includes essential human processes: identifying challenges, experimenting, collaborating, and problem-solving. Robotics also captures the imagination of people of all ages — through the joy of making, the excitement of technological evolution, and the tangible experience of creation.

Creating opportunities to experience robotics simultaneously creates opportunities for participation.

Whether through workshops, robotics competitions, or small-scale community-based activities, the process of planning and implementing these initiatives cultivates relationships, practical knowledge, and experiential learning.

Over time, this accumulated knowledge and network of relationships become embedded within the community, nurturing new talent and enabling richer future opportunities.

This positive cycle is only possible when local stakeholders take initiative themselves.

It is difficult to generate through outsourced projects or one-off events.

CO-SAKU Robotics began as a practice rooted in Setagaya, Tokyo, and has since expanded through collaborations with diverse communities and organizations both domestically and internationally.

We are not professional engineers
nor a formal educational
institution.

Through hands-on experimentation and joyful practice, we have accumulated knowledge in robotics and project operation directly from real-world implementation.

This ongoing practice has led to a project model that does not rely solely on specialists, and to the development of original content that can be enjoyed across generations and experience levels.

The name CO-SAKU carries
three meanings:
  • Craft and making
  • Intersection of people and ideas
